Free blood pressure checks, body fat analysis and health age analysis will be done at a Community Health Fair/Health Screening from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, June 24, at the Pulaski Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Local merchants also have agreed to supply free samples of their products for the event, according to Bill Daniels of Well/Spring Lifestyle Retreat, which co-sponsors the event with the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church.
“It promises to be a worthwhile use of shopping and recreation time,” Daniels said.
Louise Daniels, who with her husband Bill co-founded Well/Spring Lifestyle Retreat, said, “We say at Well/Spring, ‘Why take chances with your health? Instead, take charge of your health!’”
The Daniels counsel with people to help beat diabetes, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, reverse heart disease, eat more and weigh less and increase endurance.
The couple said studies show that premature aging and disability are largely the result of the way one lives. In a well-known study, the health practices of 7,000 people were recorded for nine years. This research revealed a clear relationship between seven basic health practices and one’s risk of death. Individuals practicing all of these health habits lived an average of 10-12 years longer than those who did not, with an increased quality of life.
Health age assessment by computer-aided analysis and other health information will be available at the Health Fair.
“We invite the entire community because an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure,” Bill Daniels said.
